Congratulations, you have an interview! Below are 10 Do's and Don'ts that will help you get the job...
1. Do arrive 10 minutes early – drive by the location the night before to ensure you won’t get lost
2. Do dress professionally – a suit is always a safe choice, but consider the company and position for which you are interviewing and dress accordingly
3. Do listen to what the interviewer is asking – maintain eye contact, nod, and smile when appropriate to establish that you are listening
4. Do show excitement for the company and the job – eagerness is a key component in differentiating a good candidate vs. a great candidate
5. Do be honest – this includes your previous experience, education, skills, etc., it is never okay to embellish this information
6. Don’t bring up money, benefits, or vacation days unless asked – this is an interview, you don’t even know if you have the job yet
7. Don’t speak negatively about previous employers – if you are negative in your interview it makes you sound like a problem employee
8. Don’t be rude, belligerent, or a know-it-all – employers hire people they like, after all they will be working with you everyday
9. Don’t use curse words – it is not okay to even use mildly bad language, keep your language professional
10. Don’t interrupt – this is a common courtesy that everyone deserves
